SYNOPSIS: Trapped on a peacock farm in rural Rhode Island with her abusive, widowed father, 11 year old Jane dreams of running away with her beloved older brother John. After an intense fight with his father, John promises Jane they will escape together on his motorcycle. When John’s infatuation with his new, Bardot look-a-like girlfriend threatens Jane's escape, Jane recklessly lashes out.
PRODUCTION DESIGN CONCEPT: The design concept on this project was based around color temperature. As Jane’s world collapses, so did the color around her. The opening of the film is all golds and yellows and the last scene is only blacks, blue and greys. The color not only shifted in temperature, but in saturation as well. All production design elements worked toward these goals – yellow to blue and saturation to grayscale. I worked closely with cinematographer Lyle Vincent to focus the use of filters. Because I directed this project as well as designed it, I had a lot more control over its look.
