Markus Kirschner is a production designer and director living in New York City.

Most recently, Markus designed the re-creation sequences for Oscar-winner Alex Gibney's documentary currently titled, Silence. Previously he designed the re-creation sequences for Oscar-winner James Marsh's Project Nim (Best Director Sundance 2011) and Eric Mendelsohn's 3 Backyards (Best Director Sundance 2010) starring Edie Falco, Embeth Davidtz and Elias Koteas. Notable short films include Myna Joseph’s MAN and Teressa Tunney’s This is a Story about Ted and Alice starring Melissa Leo; both films played at Cannes 2008. Markus has also styled commercials for M.A.C. Cosmetics and NFL Women's Wear.

Markus has directed, produced and edited the first season of the Sous Chef Series for Williams-Sonoma and Tasting Table. Markus wrote and directed the short film Communion starring Louisa Krause. Communion won the Nevada Filmmaking Award at the 2009 CineVegas Film Festival and played at the AFI, Dallas, Palm Springs, Rhode Island and Bilbao International Film Festivals. He is currently in development as the writer/director of Amber, a feature film about a troubled young swim coach having an affair with her co-worker.

Prior to his work as a designer and director, Markus worked at Untitled Entertainment for Elise Konialian and Gene Parseghian and interned at Hopkins Smith Barden Casting. He studied acting with Earle Gister at the Actor's Center and was a member of the 2000 Chautauqua Institution Theater Company. He holds a B.A. in Literature from Bard College and M.F.A. in Filmmaking from Columbia University.
